Day by Day
Itinerary

Arrive on the first day

You will be picked up from the Kilimanjaro international airport by a Carnivore Safaris staff member (JRO). You will then be driven to a hotel in Arusha, where you will be briefed on your upcoming safari. Enjoy a restful night before setting out on your adventure the next day!

Day Two
ARUSHA TO MATERUNI

After breakfast, drive to Materuni Falls, which are located in the village of Materuni on the Kilimanjaro mountain’s edge, where fertile volcanic soil allows for coffee plantations, which are considered to be among Africa’s best. Visit one of the coffee farms to learn about the process from bean growth to roasting, and then enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee in the Chagga style. Later, you’ll hike through banana plantations to the Materuni waterfalls. Arrive at the lovely falls, which are nestled in a pristine valley with towering cliffs above. Before returning to Arusha for dinner and overnight, take a swim in the rock pool below the falls.

The third day
ARUSHA HOTEL TO TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

Drive to Tarangire National Park for game viewing after breakfast, then back to the lodge for the evening and overnight. A wildlife game drive will take place where you can see herds of up to 300 elephants around the Tarangire river, which is the animals’ primary source of fresh water. There are more than 600 species of birds, so keep an eye out for screeching flocks of colorful yellow-collared love birds.

4th day TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK TO LAKE MANYARA

After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park for game viewing to explore the park, which is home to an abundance of wildlife, including the famous tree-climbing lions. During the wet season, the park is also known for the flocks of thousands of flamingos that feed along the lake’s edge. Drive to your Karatu hotel or lodge in the late evening for dinner and overnight.

5TH DAY KARATU TO LAKE EYASI

Drive to Lake Eyasi after an early breakfast at the lodge to visit two different tribes, the Hadza and the Datoga: The Hadza do not have domesticated livestock and do not grow or store their own food because they are a hunter-gatherer society. The Hadza subsist by hunting and foraging for edible plants with hand-made bows and arrows. The Hadza diet consists primarily of plants, but it also includes meat, fat, and honey.

The Datoga are of Nilotic ancestry and are classified as highland Southern Nilos. They are thought to have moved to the Lake Eyasi area around 3,000 years ago from the highlands of southern Sudan and western Ethiopia, where they had previously lived.

Drive back to the lodge in Karatu for lunch, an afternoon at leisure, or an optional visit to the Karatu local market after learning about and discovering the cultures of these two different tribes. Dinner and overnight in Karatu at your hotel or lodge.

6TH DAY
FROM NGORONGORO TO KARATU

Drive to Ngorongoro Crater after an early breakfast at the lodge. You’ll descend into the crater for a thrilling game drive inside the Ngorongoro Crater, which is often referred to as one of the world’s natural wonders. It is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, as well as a natural haven for some of Africa’s most densely populated animal populations. It is one of the few places in the world where the endangered black rhino can be seen in its natural habitat.
The “Big Five” can be spotted during the game drive and late afternoon drive to Serengeti National Park for dinner and overnight, as few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls.

SEVENTH AND EIGHTH DAYS
FULL GAME DRIVE SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

After a full day of game viewing in the Serengeti National Park, enjoy breakfast at the lodge. Attempt to follow and view the Great Migration before returning to the lodge/tented camp in the late afternoon. The Serengeti is well known for its healthy stock of other resident wildlife, particularly the “big five,” named after the five most prized trophies taken by hunters. Lions: The Serengeti is thought to hold the largest population of lions in Africa due in part to the abundance of prey species.
This ecosystem is home to over 3,000 lions. The African leopard is a solitary predator that is commonly seen in the Seronera region but is found throughout the national park, with a population of around 1,000 individuals. African elephants are elephants from Africa.

Day nine
SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK TO LAKE NATRON

We’ll take you on an early morning game drive today, where you might see a nocturnal animal returning from a night of hunting, or a group of lionesses planning a morning ambush, and then the rest of the game drive will take you to the Northern Serengeti. Check out of Klein’s gate and drive to Lake Natron, arriving late in the afternoon for a sunset lake walk. At Lake Natron, you will have dinner and spend the night.
