About Zanzibar

After the dust and early starts of a safari, Zanzibar slows everything down. The island is a short flight from the mainland, with coral reefs offshore and long white beaches lined with palms.

Stone Town

Stone Town, the old capital, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with markets and a history shaped by the spice and slave trades. A guided walk takes in the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum and the Arab Fort.

What to do

  • Snorkel or dive in the clear water of the Indian Ocean (optional, at extra cost).
  • Take the half-hour boat ride to Prison Island.
  • Join a spice tour, or look for red colobus monkeys in Jozani Forest.
  • Take a boat out from Kizimkazi to look for dolphins.
  • Do very little at all on the beach.

How long

We suggest five days: four nights on the beach and one night in Stone Town.

Getting there

After your safari you fly to Zanzibar from Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport, and our representative meets you on arrival.

Good to know

Zanzibar's coastal communities are mostly Muslim. Swimwear is welcome at the beach and resort, but in towns and villages please cover shoulders and knees, men and women alike. Pack reef shoes and insect repellent; snorkelling gear can be rented on the island.
