Your guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and drives you to your lodge in Arusha. The rest of the day is yours: rest after the flight and settle in. Your guide is on hand to answer questions and talk through the days ahead.
Drive west from Arusha to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and down the crater wall to the floor. Spend the day on game drives among some of the densest wildlife in Africa, with buffalo, elephant, lion and black rhino all possible. In the evening you climb back up to a lodge on the crater rim, with views back over the caldera.
Cross the crater highlands towards the Serengeti, with the option of a stop at Oldupai Gorge, where some of the earliest traces of human history were found, and an afternoon game drive on the plains. After breakfast the route then sets off for Tarangire National Park, known for its baobabs, river forest and large elephant herds. The night is spent at a tented camp.
A full day of game drives in Tarangire. Watch for lion, leopard and cheetah, and for pythons in the trees. The afternoon is slower, with the choice of a guided nature walk or a visit to a nearby Maasai village.
One last game drive at sunrise, then an unhurried breakfast before your guide drives you back to Kilimanjaro International Airport. If you have more time, you can add a few days on Zanzibar or a Kilimanjaro climb.
